Cultivation Procedures | Bonsai for Sale | Bonsai Styles
Bonsai trees are in fact miniature versions of the trees which you see every day growing in the countryside. These little trees are a lot healthier than their country cousins in that they are fed regularly, root trimmed and the soil surrounding the roots is regularly replaced with fresh soil so that any bugs found in the root system or the developing leaves are quickly eliminated.
I have been collecting bonsai for 30 years; collecting them from the wild; growing from seed or cuttings; purchasing them as seedlings from garden centres. Unfortunately I have not "weathered" as well as some of my trees and I am having to reluctantly sell some of them.
The following pages give an indication of some of the trees that are offered for sale. Some of these trees have in the past been used on public displays at Bonsai shows........
The following photographs give you an indication of my home collection and some of the display trees, they click through to a larger version of each photo.
Some of my trees have been purchased from Specialist Nurseries who stock bonsai trees which have been developed by Japanese Bonsai Artists. Be warned - these trees can be expensive. It would be best if you were to take an expert with you if it is your intention to purchase an exhibition tree that has been trained and is now in a show condition. The same applies if you purchase a tree that requires a considerable amount of work to develop the tree.It takes many years to become an expert in bonsai keeping;you have to have some knowledge of horticulture as well as an artistic flair.
Please do not let me put you off. It is a rewarding hobby and one that requires a lot of patience. For example you can trim a branch in the hope that the tree will send out shoots where you anticipate they will grow--only to find that the tree has a mind of its own and has sent out new shoots where you did not want them !!!-frustrating!!!-this is where patience is required.
